Staying Connected

Meg Scott

A magical flame of connection begins with an ember of the familiar, a commonbond of experience.

I chose to use cultural icons to depict how and why we as individuals stayconnected and how we share our personal journeys on different levels.

Whether it' a comic or a classic, a painting or a poem, a soccer game orsoup, we each discover our own way to relate to fellow travelers.

For many, the inner fires of self-expression are stoked through the use of the visual arts, music and literature. The human bond expands beyond social interaction to be defined and expressed through the exploration of our passions, dreams and desires.

Sisterhood was integrated into the piece because as I come to terms with growing older, I witness the blossoming of friendships and more greatly value my bonds with kindred spirits.

Expanding on this theme, I symbolized the marvel of humanity and its unexplained mysteries with the use of light shining through multicolored circles: the fire that glows within each of us flows outward to contribute to the warmth and wonder of the human experience.
