Staying Connected: This piece started as a visual description of linking mother and daughter in a life-long connection. But then I started thinking of the moment my daughters were born, and how I was convinced that they were gifts from Heaven. I started thinking about how each soul is on a journey, sent from Heaven to experience the joys and sorrows, laughter and tears, celebrations and frustrations, all to learn a lesson in this lifetime. So, I depicted my younger daughter as if she were just coming from Heaven itself and making her way to earth. You'll note that the back of the piece is a handprint - as if our Creator gave her a little potch on the touchas to send her on her way. My elder daughter is depicted as a young adult, already enjoying her time in the sun. Even so, the angels are watching over her (look closely in the tree above her). She has not lost her connection to Heaven. Throughout the piece, you will note a variety of ways in which our connection to Heaven is depicted - mostly through the use of iridescent objects and paint. This is most strongly depicted inside, where I have repeated the Creator's handprint, along which angels fly toward and away from the light as they carry their messages to and from Heaven ...thus connecting and uniting our spirits.
