My Passages piece is called Mail Order Baby .

Whenever I asked about the story of my birth and where I was from, my dad always said that they had ordered me from a catalog and that I had arrived in the mail.  

He even had the photo to prove it.  

So when I heard that this year's Passages group was working with mailboxes and that the theme was "Staying Connected", I dug out the old photo.

This idea took on even more significance when I found out that I was pregnant with my first child, a boy, due September 16, 2006.  

So my Passages piece is a recreation of that mailbox moment - a connection of the generations of my family - a symbol of my parents connection to me and now of my connection to my baby.
